What stays on your Mac

JobBot is a desktop application. Your resume file, the details you fill in on the Your details screen, the answers you save to screening questions, the job boards you are signed in to, the browser profiles those sessions live in, the log of every run, and the count of applications you have submitted today on the free plan are stored in the app's local data folder on your own machine. They are not uploaded to Trei. The one case where some of this leaves your Mac is AI answers through OpenRouter, described in the next section.

AI answers: what leaves your Mac, and when

AI answers are optional. They are used only for a question that your saved answers and your details do not answer. A question about a detail you left empty is not sent to any AI. Where the AI runs is your choice in Settings.

Ollama. The AI runs on your Mac, through Ollama at an address on your own machine. Nothing is sent over the internet.

OpenRouter. This is used only if you have entered your own OpenRouter key and chosen it. Without a key, JobBot uses Ollama instead. With a key, each time JobBot asks the AI to answer a question or to write a short note, it sends this to OpenRouter, which passes it to the model you picked:

  • the question, and the answer choices if the form has any;
  • the text of your resume;
  • a list built from the details you have filled in on Your details. It can include your name, date of birth, email, phone, location, pay, notice period, years with each skill and your yes or no answers. It lists only details you filled in;
  • for a short note about why a role fits, the job title line and the job description from the listing.

This goes from your Mac straight to OpenRouter. It does not pass through Trei, and we do not receive or store it. OpenRouter and the model provider handle it under their own terms and privacy policies. Your OpenRouter key stays on your Mac and is sent only to OpenRouter.

What our servers hold

To run a paid subscription we store your email address, your subscription status and its billing period, the payment reference returned by the payment provider, and the identifier of the device your licence is activated on. We do not receive or store your card details - those go directly to the payment provider.

The app also asks our update server which version is current. That request carries the app version and your platform, and nothing about you or your applications.

The free plan allows 5 submitted applications a day. That count is kept on your Mac only and is never sent to us. When you start the 15-day Pro trial, our server records that the trial has been used for your account and for your device, so it is offered once for each.

If the app hits an unexpected error, it sends a short error report to our server: the app version, your platform, where the error happened, the error name and message, and a stack trace. Email addresses are replaced before it is sent. It is meant for fixing bugs and is not a copy of your applications.

Once a day while it is open, the app tells our server that it is in use, so we can count how many people use JobBot. That message carries a random ID made on your Mac for this one purpose and nothing else: not your email, not your device identifier, and nothing about your applications. This website counts visits the same way, with a separate random ID kept in your browser.

What we never collect

We do not collect the jobs you apply to, the employers you apply to, your resume, your details, your answers to screening questions, or your job board credentials. JobBot never asks for a job board password; it uses the sessions already signed in on your machine.

Payment providers

Subscriptions in India are processed by Razorpay, and elsewhere by Dodo Payments. Each receives the information it needs to take payment and is bound by its own privacy policy.

Your choices

Deleting the app's local data folder removes everything JobBot has stored on your machine. To have your subscription record deleted, write to us from the contact page and we will remove it once the subscription has ended and any legally required retention has lapsed.
